RAMDAM, a Center for the Arts
Located in the verdant town of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, RAMDAM, UN CENTRE D’ART (a center for the arts) is a multidisciplinary hub for artistic research, creation, and training that looks like a cosy country home. French choreographer Maguy Marin bought this former carpentry workshop south of Lyon in 1995, while she was opening a National Choreographic Center (CCN) in Rillieux-la-Pape, one of Lyon’s northern suburbs. Her project immediately attracted a multitude of artists who helped with the building’s remodelling – it now boasts two studios, an additional workspace, a friendly kitchen, and a four-bedroom cottage nestled in a woodsy outdoor space. In 2015, after a stint in Toulouse, the Maguy Marin Company settled at RAMDAM for good and committed to preserving its resolutely collective way of running things, as this new episode of our “Dance Spaces” series attests.
